A Chicago Hip Hop Native Now Residing In Topeka Kansas! Grinding Out A Career In Music...

Picture
Pushing self produced instrumentals and lyrics.
Performing in Chicago, IL/Topeka, KS/Manhattan, KS/Lawrence, KS/Emporia, KS/Wichita, KS/Kansas City, MO/Springfield, IL/ and Omaha, Nebraska.

As for musical influences he has been listening to NPR and Jim Croce. No joke, Ant loves Jim Croce. He believes Jim had an honesty in his music, and given the current state of economy and the way we’ve been treating each other lately, Jim speaks the most to how Ant views the world around himself.

Anthemous has gone as far as Jack Johnson too. Jack’s got a minimalist sound that leaves the focus on his content, which is pretty rich. Banana Pancakes? Hell yeah! Quotes Anthemous...

Rhythmic lyrics inspiring music that lasts.
Anthemous works hard, so if you see a flyer or a show invite online with his name on it, just come and check it out. He will make it worth your while by performing his heart out.
Musically, instrumentally and vocally Ant has always be inspired by Houston-based, power player Scarface, however, I have been noted as Topeka's NAS by peers and counterparts alike. Anthemous once created and hosted a weekly hip hop underground local showcase and operated it for 9 months before moving on.
"Ant has been doing his music quite some time now. When he first got into music, there were no “basement studios.” You had to pay, or someone had to really believe in your talent to give you the time of day."

"Anthemous would go to venues and they wouldn't even hear him out, they would cut him off before he finished with an emphatic NO.
He knew he had to do something different to open the dialogue with them, after all, they are the gate keepers".
He adds, "If you want to become known around his region, radio and live shows were his only bet, and radio is a hard cookie to bite."

It became clear to him that this was also the reason why NO ARTIST from his region has ever been "signed to any record labels making any real moves in the industry"

He began to record music free of the detrimental messages which plague 90% of hip hop recordings, ie: Killing, Drug Dealing, Degradation of Women, Selling Unattainable Dreams, and even Cursing.

"It wasn't easy, because the average rap concert-goer sort of expects to hear that type of message, and the ones who would like a more positive message, are driven away from the live show experience because of the "riff-raff" of wannabe gangster rappers, and their fans acting out what they think is 'keeping it real'. He thought that he would have fared better in his career had he stayed in Chicago, but Ant kind of like the challenge; It is the soldier in him to push against impressive odds to carve a way for others like himself to thrive in an otherwise in conducive environment for raw, hip hop."

It is 2012, and Anthemous is working on his debut album titled, "American Rapper" and spearheading a movement called "Team99%". The movement is about fighting to take back the airwaves from the 1% rappers, or the mainstream element of the music industry. "Hardest thing to do is convince the others who feel what he feels about changing the direction of commercial music, to step up and change the industry, we must bring hip hop back to substance and corner the negative rap into it's little segment of the market once again; point blank, its hurting our people. And you can talk the good talk, but the world will know where you really stand when they hear your music."

Nick Patterson, better known as Anthemous, knows he may not see the finish line, but you have to start somewhere.

"My biggest pet peeve is the saying, “Keeping It Real.” It doesn’t help the state of affairs folks in the “hood” have to face. It actually depletes them of a solution through the means in which one could reach them best: through music. If you could find a Will Smith language discipline, with a Nas or Common awareness, that would probably be the most “real” message the underprivileged need to hear. However, it’s only my opinion."
